Another New discovery in Jerusalem

Once again, a surprise in Jerusalem.

Just like most Thursdays, Shali went to Jerusalem this week to visit his clients, deliver merchandise and see “what’s going on”.

He usually doesn’t call me during the day because he’s so busy and on the go, but I got a call from him in the middle of the day and with a very excited voice he said, “I can’t believe I found a church I’ve never seen in Jerusalem. It’s so beautiful and I’m so excited!”

When he came home in the evening he gave me the details:

This small Greek Orthodox church is located on the eastern portion of the Mount of Olives. We’re not certain of its name yet I’ll find out…) we know that it’s the starting point of the procession held annually in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. He said that the paintings inside are incredible, surpassing most of the church paintings he’s seen in Jerusalem. Certainly worth a visit…..

“Knowing” the Old City

Just a short note about something that happened today.

We visited my cousin who lives in Jerusalem and had lunch at her house. Shali had to go to the the Old City for some business and wanted someone to go with him. My cousin, who visits the Old City regularly, but hasn’t been there in a few weeks, volunteered to go with Shali and I, in turn, volunteered to clean up her kitchen while they were out.

Upon their return, my cousin was showing us a few of her purchases (she loves shopping there) when she said: “I’ve never seen the Old City like I just saw it with Shali”. We asked her what she meant, knowing that she’s been there hundreds of times before. She explained that she always walks through the Old City by foot, never entering with her car because it’s generally not permitted . Shali, because he had merchandise to deliver, entered with his car and took her through small alleys and streets she never knew existed.  She said that his knowledge of the Old City’s narrow streets and alleys is amazing.

So….for all of you out there who have any questions about touring Jerusalem’s Old City, ask away. Hopefully, through Shali, I’ll be able to give you tips that will make your touring experince more memorable.

Welcome to my Blog

Hi,

My name is Daphna (Daphne in English) Kalderon. I am an American living in Israel for almost 20 years now. During most of these years, I worked in the incoming travel industry, planning itineraries, booking tour guides and making hotel reservations.

I am married to a man (Shali) who, due to his love for his land and his passion for Jerusalem, started a business about 18 years ago by making maps, pamphlets, placemats – anything that would help him share Israel’s beauty, history, diversity and unique character. Shali hired a professional Israeli artist who continues to create unique, colorful, attractive drawings especially for him – detailed pieces of art that are exclusive only to Shalom Advertising, his company.

Not long ago, I built a web site to give people around the world the opportunity to enjoy his products, to aid in planning their trip, for use while touring the country or as memorable souvenirs. Those will do not have the opportunity to visit Israel can get a feel for the country and all it has to offer through these products as well. Our web site: www.holylandguides.com

Since Shali travels throught the Israel constantly, he is “in the know” concerning tourist attractions, interesting places to eat, what’s going on in the Old City of Jerusalem (his favorite place…).

I’ll be here with updates, information and to answer any questions you may have concerning touring in Israel, the Holyland.
